The line “No reason” is played without the whole song. Repetition is strongly used within the lyrics. Those four lines draw a listener in and allow them to think and draw conclusions on their own about why that devastating Monday actually happened. "And it types to a waiting world" (“I Don’t Like Mondays.” Line 18) is referring to how the outside world just stood back and allowed her to slowly brew until she went mentally insane. She showed everyone her "good" side, while within she was brewing with her "bad" side. “The Telex machine is kept so clean” (“I Don’t Like Mondays.” Line 17), alludes to the outside message Brenda conveyed before the devastating display on the playground. The second half of the line, “Gets switched to overload” (I Don’t Like Mondays.” Line 2), is symbolizing Brenda’s ultimate downfall, in which a chemical imbalance happened within her brain and she finally snapped and lost control of herself. “The silicon chip inside her head” (“I Don’t Like Mondays.” Line 1), refers not to an actual chip that controls her thoughts and actions, like many believed in the 1970’s when this song was first released, but actuality symbolizes the imaginary half of her brain that keeps her stable and in control of herself. The most pronounced use of these devices is the symbolism of the “Silicon Chip” and the “Telex Machine”. While inspecting the lyrics of the Boomtowns Rats, I Don’t Like Mondays, one can detect many usages of literary and poetic devices to help the band get their message across.
